The Four Steps to quitting you should know

  • STEP 1 - Ask yourself these questions:

    1. Am I stopping for myself or somebody else?

    2. Do I want to stop smoking completely?

    3. Am I blocked by fear of withdrawals, cravings or weight gain? 

    4. Am I embarrassed or tired of trying and continually failing?

    5. Is there more to my smoking habit than sticking a cigarette in my mouth?

  • STEP 2 – Be decisive and remove any obstacles in your way

    The most economical method of stopping smoking is to decide to stop and never smoke again. If you think it’s easier said than done to ‘just stop’, it doesn’t mean you should just give up. Many obstacles prevent people from quitting smoking, some of which you may be able to remove on your own and some of which you may not even be consciously aware of. If you’ve decided to stop but can’t seem to overcome your obstacles on your own, it’s time to move onto step 3.

  • STEP 3 - Choose your option carefully

    If you are sick of the cycle of trying ‘quitting aids’ only to start again, then what are your choices? Choosing an option can be daunting.


    Some people try medications but often experience side effects such as nightmares and lethargy. There’s also the idea of replacing your habit with something else – such as drinking some water or eating when you feel like smoking. Others may try nicotine replacement treatments that continually and even more efficiently add nicotine to their system.


    The problem is that replacement behaviours are just that – alternative responses to cravings – so they rarely satisfy you in the long term. You need to get to the root of your habit and stop the cravings, which requires change consciously and unconsciously. This is where modern hypnosis can help.
